Research Abstract |
In this project, new nonlinear optical materials has been developed. New material has feature that the part of NLO chromophore is embedded in the polymer main chain and its dipole moment aligns transverse to main chain. The combination of imide linkage and NLO chromophore whose dipole moment aligns transverse to the backbone gave rise to new typ of NLO polyimide. Enhanced orientational stability of the aligned NLO chromophore is ascribed to the rigid structure of the polyimide backbone. Fairly good orientational stable polyurea with NLO moiety transverse to polymer backbone could be prepared. Optical anisotropy of SHG coefficients was investigated using drawn polyurea samples.
