Research Abstract |
The Development of Environmental Stress Model A quantitative model for evaluating the difficulty of ship handling caused by a restricted manoeuvring area or by traffic congestion or by a combination of both was developed. It includes acceptance criteria based on the mariners' perception of safety. The Development of Near Miss Model Another quantitative model for expressing the degree of potential danger of near miss event latent in the ship handling process was also developed. Assessment of the Achievement of Skill of Mariners The achievement of skill by the ship handling simulator oriented training for mariners can be indicated on the rating chart which is composed of the latent environmental stress value derived from the Environmental Stress Model and the occurrence rate of near miss danger derived from the Near Miss Model together with the achievement process of the mariner's skill.
