Research Abstract

For the purpose of breeding on the yellow flower Camellia, we have examined several experiments as follows :
1. As the hybrid embryos of Camellia japonica and C. chrysantha have aborted on the way of growth, we have established the method of embryo culture for genus Camellia.
2. Most morphological characters of FィイD21ィエD2 hybrids (C. japonica x C. chrysantha) were intermediate from parents but some characters were observed to incline to C. japonica or C. chrysantha. Flower color of all FィイD21ィエD2 hybrids were limitted from pale yellow to cream color, and the hybrids have seemed to be stelile.
3. As a result of colchicine treatment to adventitious embryos induced by embryo culture, many stout and unusual shoots were obtained. Some of them have been seemed to be amphidiploid.
4. As a result on PCR-RFLP analysis of amplified region of chloroplast DNA, peculiar electrophoresis band pattern caused by species or section were obtained. These results have been useful for classification of genus Camellia.
5. By examination about specimens collected in Vietnam, we have determined three specimens as new species and have made public them.
