Forest and field fires occur every year. The prevention measures are not only from respect to the earth's environment but also exerts the influence on the forestry business. As for the generation cause of forest and field fires, after a forest or field fire occurs once, the measure by which a fire is prevented from being becomes very important though it is thought that there are a lot of artificial elements, and prevention is the most important. This thesis is a research of the influence of geographical features on the expansion of spreading forest and field fires by using a numerical geographical features model. Using this method, the geographical features of the region are analyzed by using the geographical features factor thought to exert an influence on the wind first of all, and a "Land form classification map for wind" is made. Also, how the geographical structure of each classified region acts on the wind, which spreads fire to the region (is it a structure leading to weakening or promoting a fire?), is judged, and a "Fire risk district sectional map analyzed based on the topography" is made. This provides relative risk concerning spreading of a fire in each region. Moreover, the direction in which a fire spreads, the spreading speed, and the spreading distance are calculated after the velocity of the wind and the woods are considered, and a "sectional map of fire spread forecast district" is mode. Finally, the "Fire risk district sectional map analyzed based on topography" and "sectional map of fire spread forecast district", are overlapped to make a "Sectional map of fire damage forecast district", to forecast the damage district of a fire. When the above technique described was applied to a forest and field fire in Takehara City in Hiroshima Pref. and in a forcst and field fire in Manba-cho in Gunma Pref. generated in April, 1993 and August, 1994 respectively we obtained excellent results which have been noted in this thesis.
