Research Abstract |
The distributions of lympahatic vessels in gingiva less than labial mucosa and tongue. The lymphatic vessels nets of gingiva have large meshes. It was found that the lumphatic vessels in the periodontium run along the axis of the tooth close to the alveolar bone at the cervical regions and were contributed with plexus at the root apex regions, with and without physiological absorption of the dental roots. Some branches communicated with lymphatic vessels in the bone-marrow, through Volkman's canals in the alveoral bone. Many lymphatic vessels were accompanied by blood vessels. When the distribution of the lymphatic vessels was compared with the regions in the one tooth, there were more lymphatic vessels on the distal side than on the mesial side of the tooth, and there were more lymphatic vessels on the lingual side than on the buccal side of the tooth. In addition, there were more lymphatic vessels in the posterior molars than in the anterior molars. These results suggest that the courses and distribution of the lymphatic vessels may markdly affect the progress of periapical lesions and the prognosis of endodontic treatment.
