Research Abstract |
THE PORPOSE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO DEVELOP THE MODEL OF SUPPORT-SYSTEM FOR SELF-CARE AMONG PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS WHO WERE SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITY LIVING. IN 1998, SUPPORT-SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED THROUGH SEMI-STRUCTURED INTERVIEWING TO 28 PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS WHO WERE LIVING THE COMMINUTY MORE THAN 60% PERIOD SINCE THEIR ONSET. AND IN 1999, MODEL WAS REFINED THROUGH SEMI-STRUCTURED INTERVIEWING TO BOTH 19 PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS AND 29 PROFESSIONALS, THESE RESULTS WERE AS FOLLOWS : 1) PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS HAD CONTROOLED THEIR SYMPTOMES AND THEY DECIDED TO LIVE WITH THEIR ILLNESS. THEN THEY SPREAD OUT THEIR NETWORK FROM FAMILY TO FRIENDS IN THE COMMUNITY. THEY GOT THEIR CONFIDENCE THROUGH DOING SOMETHING WHAT THEY COULD IN THE REALITY. FURTHERMORE THEY MADE USE OF DAY-CARE AND WORKING PLACES TO SPEND THEIR TIME IN THE DAY. ON THE OTHER HAND, THEY USED THOSE PLACES AS SOCIAL SLILLS TRAINING. 2) THEY DEVELOPED THEIR SOCIAL NETWORK FROM FAMILY, PROFESSIONALS, TO FRIENDS IN THE COM

MUNITY. THEY WERE SOCIALIZED THROUGH THOSE INTERACTIONS. SPECIALLY THEY MADE USE OF PROFESSIONALS AS CONSULTANT AND THEN THEY DEVELOPED THEIR NETWORK IN THE COMMUNITY. 3) THE REALITIES OF SELF-CARE AMONG PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS WHO WERE SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITY LIVING WERE THE FOLLOWING ; THEY DEVISED THEIR COOKING, SYMPTOME-CONTROL, AND SPECIALLY THEY CONTROLLED THE BALANCE BETWEEN ACTIVITY AND REST. THEIR DAILY LIVES WERE MADE OF HOPE AND SATISFACTION OF THEIR DAILY-LIVES. AND IT WAS RELE\ATED TO WHAT THEY COULD DO IN THE PAST. 4) SUPPORT FROM PROFESSIONALS WERE INCLUDED ASSESSMENT, PHYSICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT AND CARE. ASSESSMENT INCLUDED SYMPROMES, DEVELOPMENT STAGES OF PATIENTS, RELATIONSHIP WITH FAMILIES, AND SELF-CARE. 5) THIS STUDY SUGGESTTED THAT IN ORDER TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY LIVING OF PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS WAS PROFESSIONALS SHOULD ASSESS SELF-CARE AND THE PROCESS OF TREATMENT FIRST. THEN PROFESSIONALS SHOULD PROVIDE SUPOIRTIVE ENVIRONMENT & SERVICES WHICH WERE NEEDED BY PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS. Less
