Research Abstract |
For the past 3 years, various stimuli such as group therapy, touching and light exercise of bell ringing have been given to the elderly with dementia in hospitals for aged patients, and the effects have been clarified. In addition, on investigation of the relation with word association test, the following results were observed. 1. It is suggested that it is important for elderly patients with light dementia to join the group therapy positively. 2. Touching therapy, which is known for easing pain and feelings of patients, has been proved effective for the elderly with dementia with a delay influence. 3. A light exercise to ring a bell to the rhythm of a metronome settles blood pressure and pulse. A more remarkable change appeared in the blood pressure than the pulse. 4.Results of a language association test carried out on subjects gave the personality characteristic of the elderly with dementia with respect to personal relations and interests in externality, etc. Regarding relevance to objective indices, even though there was difficulty for statistical processing of language association test results, the subject who had good results in objective indices tended to appropriately react to a stimulus word in language association test. This indicated validity of objective indices. Incidentally, the computer game for the elderly with dementia to touch the ball moving on screen at randam was certainly developed and partly introduced to them. Because it was too difficult for them to use, it would be our future subject.
