Research Abstract |
The purpose of our researches are decoding problems and technical sentences in dedicated tablets and in books of Japanese historical mathematics written in Chinese literature, investigating the significance in mathematical history and in caltural history, inquiring into the solution of mathematic (especially geometric) problems, and moreover, planning to utilize our research to the education in mathematics and science. Before and after our scientific research was adopted to Grant-in-Aid in the academic year 1998 (Heisei 10), progress was made in researches "circular inversion", "three inscribed circles it a rectangular triangle", and "equi-radius inscribed circles in each segmental triangle". Three papers were published on the former two themes, but not the last theme. The other problems, like "ellipse and circle inscribed in a rectangle" given by Naonobu Ajima, "a spheroid inscribed in a box", and "the fifth problem dedicated to Oishiko Shrine", and so on, were investigated. Poster paper were presented at Third International Conference on Oriental Astronomy held at Fukuoka 1998. Concerning to the last part in ours subject : "utilization to science education", I mentioned to the tablet dedicated by Mogami Tokunai in connection with land survey and longitude-latitude of the Earth in my textbook on astrnomy. In December 2000, I dedicated mathematical tablet to Takasago Shrine in Hyougo prefecture as the outcome of our research. I hope that high school and college student and also all people will be interested in Japanese historical mathematics as the precious cultural inheritance.
