Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to elucidate the effect of exercise training on the antioxidant property of HDL to LDL oxidation. The oxidative susceptibility of serum and LDL decreased significantly after the exercise training. There was a significant correlation between the change in the index of serum oxidative susceptibility and the change in HDL-C.In the group in which either paraoxonase activity or arylesterase activity increased after the exercise training, there was a significantly pronounced decrease of LDL oxidative susceptibility after the program. Furthermore, the change in arylesterase activity was significantly correlated with the change in LDL oxidative susceptibility after the program. In vitro experiment revealed that there was no significant difference between pre-exercise HDL and post-exercise HDL in the preventive effect, examined in the adjusted level of HDL protein, on LDL oxidation. The inhibition of LDL oxidation by HDL might be dependent on the concentration of HDL.From these results, we conclude that exercise-induced elevation of HDL level and HDL-bound PON activity may contribute to the enhanced oxidative resistance of LDL through aerobic exercise training.
