Research Abstract |
This research project focused on the development of a CALL (Computer Aided Language Learning) system for the audio-lingual training of Japanese language and cultural education. In order to create an advanced CALL system, it is necessary not only to develop the hardware and software of CALL system, but also to analyze thoroughly the design and content of courseware from linguistic and educational perspectives. In this respect, this research project has developed some sample software and raised some crucial issues for the development of CALL system in teaching Japanese as follows. 1. Development of pedagogy in teaching Japanese with a CALL system ; 2. Development of CALL software for audio-lingual education of Japanese, i.e., "Hearing Checker"and "Hearing Master" ; 3. Development of web-based archives of pictures with sounds for teaching Japanese, ; 4. Literature review of publications on audio-lingual education in"Japanese Language Education, "a journal issued by the Association of Japanese Language Education ; 5. Development of CALL teaching materials from the aspect of Cultural-Linguistics ; 6. Importance of situational Japanese language education in CALL software ; 7. The importance of historical perspectives of Japanese language in teaching Japanese ; 8. Multi-media education in Korea ; 9. Development of a web-based audio-lingual teaching material with video cups. It is very important to create an interactive CALL system in the future.
