Research Abstract |
This research aimed to set up multimedia CAI systems on the web and assist learners of Japanese to effectively improve themselves in listening and speaking. Investigators 1) created effective speech teaching materials ; 2) designed fun CAI programs and implimented them on a server computer ; 3) field-tested and improved them ; and 4) tested and evaluated them for Japanese language class coursewares. One illustrative example is a Japanese language dictation program on the web. With this on-demand exercise program, learners can have dictation practices any time and anywhere, and have their answers checked instantly. It differs from other web-based programs in that 1) it checks input answers morpheme by morpheme so that users can easily identify errors in their answer sentences, and 2) it gives users some feedback at the end of each session, by providing the total score and the list of error answers during the session.
