Research Abstract |
(1)Carried a theoretical study on the body expression in the current digital media in Japan such as art, entertainment (including games) and virtual characters on the web, and analyzed the phenomenon in terms of Japanese culture. Papers related to this them were accepted presented internationally in different conferences and symposia including CAA99 and ISEA00. Also, invited lectures were given domestic and abroad at universities and other institutions including UCLA, University of Oregon, KIASMA National Museum of Contemporary Art of Finland among others. A paper on this them was printed on a Japanese journal. Its English version is under print from Frankfurt University. (2)Carried a theoretical study on the impact of telerobotic technology in terms of body and art, on which a paper is published from the MIT Press as a part of a book edited by Ken Goldberg, "The Robot in the Garden : Telerobotics and Telepistemology on the Net". The book is published March 2000. Another paper on telerobotic art was published by LEONARDO Almanac, from MIT Press. (3)Built a realtime system, a platform for dance performances by the earlier co-investigator Fukuhara, which was used both in Japan and abroad in performances and workshops for experimenting the body expression. (4)With the earlier co-investigator Grznic, organized a symposium on body and art in Ljubljana, Slovenia in November 1999. Artworks related to the theme were selected and exhibited, while two lectures by the head investigator were given along with lectures of two other researchers invited from Japan. (5)"Fantastic Phantom Slipper", the project carried with Kume and others was accepted at SIGGRAPH 99 and was exhibited. Based on this exhibition and others, a paper was submitted to Virtual Reality Society of Japan and accepted.
