Research Abstract |
This research aimed to establish an algal toxicity test method based on the algal oxygen evolution rate and to confirm its applicability on to the natural water. Followings are clarified as the result of this research. 1. Test method to evaluate algal toxicity in 6 hours was established with the combination of standard test alga, S.capricornutum and one of the standard test culture media AAP medium. This must be useful to evaluate algal toxicity more rapid than the popular one based on algal growth. 2. It was clarified that same method could be applied to the most of natural water with native algal species. Because all the algae have the ability to evolve oxygen as a result of photosynthesis. By applying it to natural water, site-specific effects of toxicants that could not be exactly evaluated by standard methods would be examined. 3. Actually, some combination of native algae and natural water gave more sensitive results than the combination of S.capricornutum and AAP medium.
