Research Abstract

一次元量子スピン系に関してこれまで様々なモデル物質を用いて特異な基底状態が明らかにされてきた。これらのモデル物質群は、磁性を担っているイオンが一種類のみで構成されており、「異種類の磁性イオンを含む一次元鎖は、如何なる基底状態をとるのであろうか?」という着想のもと、昨年度から引き続き試料作製環境を整備し、幾つかのモデル物質の合成、結晶及び磁気構造解析、巨視的測定を行った。特に、酸化物Sr_3MM'O_6(M=Cu,Ni,Zn;M'=Pt,Ir)の合成を集中して行ったが、この化合物群は、磁性イオンのMとM'が交互に配列した擬一次元量子スピン磁性体のモデル物質群として理論・実験両面から大変注目されている。この物質群の中のM=Ni(S=1)、M'=Ir(S=1/2)の磁気的性質が大変興味深く、磁性率や比熱等の巨視的測定の結果、これまでの局在スピン概念では説明できず、電子系と密接に関係した新規の基底状態を示唆する結果が得られた。
