電子論による水素吸蔵合金の理論的な特性予測とそれに基づく新合金の設計と開発

Research Abstract

本研究では、水素吸蔵合金中の水素の占有状態を明らかにし、それを材料設計に応用するために、種々の水素吸蔵合金中の水素の電子状態の計算を行った。さらに、幾つかの合金について、その水素吸蔵特性を実験から調べた。
電子構造の計算には、分子軌道法の一つであるDV-Xαクラスター法を用いた。計算より、結合次数の比(=2×Bo(A-B)/(Bo(A-A)+Bo(B-B))を求め、合金の化学組成との関係を調べた。一連の計算より、既存の水素吸蔵合金には、結合次数の比と合金の化学組成との間に関係が有ることが明らかになった。この関係は、軽量水素吸蔵合金として期待されるMg系水素吸蔵合金にも適用できることが明らかになった。
上記の結合次数の比と合金の組成比の関係について、さらに理解を深めるために、結合次数の比が異なる2つのモデル合金(Ti-Mo系およびZr-Ga系)について、その水素吸蔵特性を調べた。Ti-Mo系合金では、結合次数の比(約0.99)と合金組成の比のバランスが最も良いTi_<50>Mo_<50>合金において、吸蔵・放出が可能な有効水素量が最大となった。このように、Ti-Mo系不規則合金においても、結合次数の比と合金組成の関係が成り立つことが明らかになった。一方、結合次数の比が約1.50と大きいZr-Ga系合金では、Zr/Ga比の大きい場合(例、Zr_5Ga_3)においても、不均化反応が起こることなく、かなりの量の水素が合金中に入ることが明らかになった。
この外、バナジウム合金の水素化物安定性に及ぼす合金元素の影響を系統的に調べた。
