Research Abstract

リチウムイオン電池の正極材料として様々な鉄の2価化合物が注目を集めている。鉄は豊富な元素であり低コスト化の可能性も秘めるが、2価鉄の原料は高価であり化合物の生成には高温での長時間熱処理が必要である。また、電極特性を高めるには粒子サイズを抑制する必要があるが、これは長時間熱処理とは相反する方向である。これらの技術的障壁により、鉄系電極材料はその低コスト化可能性が議論され高い電極性能についての実証もされているものの、実際には工業化段階での様々な追加措置の必要性があり、十分にその潜在能力が社会還元されていない状況である。これを打開する手法として、3価の鉄原料と還元剤かつカーボン源としての有機物との燃焼反応時の自己発熱により、2価鉄からなる均一性の極めて高い前駆体を生成させ、これを比較的低温で短時間処理することでカーボンコートされた最終生成物を得る方法を昨年度開発した。今年度は、この合成手法の特徴を用いピロリン酸アニオンを骨格とする新規正極材料の探索に展開した。また、リチウム電池のみならずナトリウムイオン電池用電極材料にも探索範囲を拡大した。その結果、複数の新規機能材料ならびにその低温準安定相を発見した。特に、ピロリン酸鉄ナトリウムは3V付近の高電位で作動し、ナトリウム電池用正極としてはこれまでで最も優れた負荷特性を示した。国際的な研究ネットワークを構築し、多くの開発材料の低温磁気特性を明らかにする研究を短時間で完成させるとともに、実用的な見地から安全性に関する熱力学的データの実験的収集を行い、高度に安全性が確保できることを実証した。
