軟X線発光分光を用いた遷移金属蛋白質の電子状態研究

Research Abstract

金属タンパク質における物性を理解するには、開殻構造をもつ遷移金属の3d電子軌道とそれを取り囲む配位子の分子軌道との混成を知ることが重要である。遷移金属サイトを囲む配位子が、分子軌道かバンドかという違いはあるが、固体において金属タンパク質に近い状態が、希薄磁性半導体(DMS)で実現している。この金属タンパク質の関連物質として考えられるDMSにおいて、SPring-8 BL07LSUで立ち上げを行った超高分解能発光分光HORNETを用いた共鳴非弾性X線散乱(RIXS)実験を行った。RIXSは内殻吸収端近傍でのX線発光分光であり、元素選択的に電子励起及び電子構造に関連した情報を得ることができる。
DMSは、母体半導体に数%の遷移金属イオンを添加した物質であり、中には強磁性を示すものが存在する。今回測定したIn1-xFexAs:Beは、新たに発見されたn型の強磁性希薄磁性半導体(DMS)である。In1-xFexAs:Beの強磁性発現機構の解明するために、強磁性を担うFeの電子構造を明らかにすることを目的として、RIXS測定を行った。
(In,Fe)Asにおいて、様々な励起光エネルギーで測定したFe L3 RIXSスペクトルは、蛍光成分が主でありラマン成分は分解能よりも非常にブロードな構造を示した。Ga1-xMnxAsと同様に、Fe 3d電子状態は配位子との混成が強く、母体の電子-正孔対との混成に起因するd-d励起の寿命幅でラマン成分が広がっていると考えられる。以上の結果から、(In,Fe)As:Be中のFeは、Fe 3d軌道は配位子との混成を介して、FeAs系物質の様に、電子相関の弱い電子状態にあることが明らかとなった。
金属タンパク質の関連物質として考えられるDMSにおいて、超高分解能軟X線発光分光装置によるRIXS測定で電子構造解析を行い、その局所電子構造を評価した。軟X線発光分光を超高分解能化することで、DMSの磁性不純物に関して、これまでに分解することが困難であった、混成によるブロードニングを実験的に観測することに成功した。
また、RIXSと相補的な測定とを組み合わせることで、DMSに関して局所電子構造と物性の関連性を議論した。これは局在した遷移金属サイトの電子状態に関する重要な知見であり、金属タンパク質の機能と電子状態の関連を明らかにする大きな手がかりになると考えられる。
