Research Abstract

本特定領域研究の目的は、電子の持つ内部自由度である電荷、スピン及び軌道に着目し遷移金属酸化物の示す新しい量子現象を引き出し、その磁性と伝導に関する物性科学を完成させるとともに、21世紀の科学技術の基礎を築こうとするものである。本領域研究は、日本の研究者が中心になって築き上げてきた、文字通り日本が世界をリードしているものである。また、海外の研究者は本プロジェクトが研究情報の発信源としての役割を果たすことを期待されている。半導体エレクトロニクスは20世紀後半の社会を支えてきた大きな技術である。これは電子をコントロールすることにより可能であった。21世紀には高温超伝導を始めとする新しい科学技術が期待される。その基礎は、本領域研究が目標とする電子の内部自由度に立脚した物質科学である。
本特定領域研究は平成11年度に発足し、平成15年度に終了した。そのため、平成16年度は、この5年間で得られた研究成果の取りまとめを行い、今後の研究方向を明確にするために、平成16年11月に国際研究集会を開催し、研究成果を整理した。
集中的に議論された内容は以下の通りである:
高温超伝導体の物性、角度分解光電子分光法の進展、遷移金属酸化物の軌道の物性、新超伝導物性、コバルト酸化物の新しい物性。
当研究集会での発表内容はアブストラクト集として英文で出版された。なお、出席者数は約250名(内外国人50名)であった。さらに、5年間の研究成果をまとめた成果報告集を出版した。
これにより、本特定領域研究の成果が世界に大きく発信され、今後の当分野の発展に大きく資するものと確信する。
