Research Abstract

特定領域研究「最高エネルギー電子衝突装置を用いた素粒子物理の展開」は、CERNの世界最高エネルギーの電子陽電子衝突装置LEPを用いた国際協同実験OPALを遂行し、この実験および関連する理論研究から得られる新たな知見から素粒子物理の新しい展開を図ることを目的として、平成11年から15年にかけておこなわれた。この研究は、質量の起源であるとされるヒッグス粒子の探索や、現在の標準理論を越えて力の大統一への道の有力候補とされ、また、宇宙のダークマター候補も予言する超対称性の探索、更に、弱い相互作用を伝達するW粒子を大量に生成してその性質を精密に調べることにより、標準理論を厳しく検証するなど、素粒子物理学の本質的に重要な課題を、世界最高エネルギーの電子陽電子衝突装置を使って直接、精密に調べようというものである。
データ収集は2000年の暮れに終了し、それ以降は、そのデータを解析し、最終的な測定器の較正を行い、最終の物理成果を導く努力を行ってきた。2003年までには、重要な成果の主なものは最終結果を論文として発表することができ、国際学会等で成果を発表してきた。また、当初考えていなかった新しいアイデアの解析も行なった。
これら学術論文や学会発表に加えて、平成16年度には、これらの成果を広く公表するために、次のことを行った。
・一般公開講演会。
2004年11月3日、東京大学安田講堂(http://www.icepp.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/info/kouenkai2004/)LEPの成果を中心に、素粒子物理の過去、現在、未来を考える4つの講演からなる。講演者は小柴昌敏(東大名誉教授)、川本辰男、萩原薫、駒宮幸男。
・本領域研究の「研究成果報告書」。研究成果をまとめた冊子の作成。
