Research Abstract

電子-陽子衝突加速器HERAの電子ビームの偏極度を2%以下の精度で測定するために横偏極度測定装置の改造を行ってきた.本年度は,偏極度測定装置の改造後の性能を確認することを目的とした.電子ビームの偏極度は,電子ビームに右巻きまたは左巻きに円偏光したレーザー光子をコンプトン散乱させ,後方に散乱したγ線の上下方向の位置分布の非対称度を測定することにより,求められる.γ線の位置はカロリメータの上下信号の非対称度ηに対して,η-y変換曲線により上下位置yに変換することにより求められる.その際,η-y変換曲線の時間的な変動が偏極度の精度を決定する要因となるため,定期的にシリコンマイクロストリップ検出器で直接yを同時測定することで,η-y変換曲線を更新することにした.この結果,η-y変換曲線の変動による偏極度測定精度への影響を解消することができた.更新されたη-y変換曲線のパラメータを用いて横偏極度を求めた結果,独立に測定されている縦偏極度の測定値との差が3%以内に納まっていることが分かった.この結果HERAの電子ビームの偏極度を2%以下の精度で決定するという当初の目標を達成することができるという見通しがついた.
また,シリコン検出器は長期間の使用で放射線損傷によって暗電流が増加することが予想される.そこで,シリコン検出器で得られた信号データに対して暗電流の増加をペデスタルの分布幅を増大させることによってシミュレーションを行った.その結果,暗電流の増加に伴ってシリコン検出器からの有効な位置情報が減少すること,そして信号値が変動することを示した.これらの結果により,偏極度測定装置の長期運転中に定期的に計測すべき測定項目とその変動の特徴が明らかとなった.
