Research Abstract

本研究では、有機分子系におけるNC-AHM技術を確立することで、高分解能観察による対象分子の選択、個々の分子への直接アクセスとその物性計測を可能とすることを目標としている。今年度の研究においては、表面電位による高分解能分子種官能基識別および分子スケール振動エネルギー散逸計測を行った。
鎖長の異なるアルカンチオール相分離SAM膜(decanethiol : C_<10>-dodecanethiol : C_<12>)を作製し、表面電位観察を行った。相分離構造はSTMおよびNC-AFMにより観察された。C_<12>およびC_<10>の両ドメインにおいて分子分解能観察像が得られ、高配向のSAM膜となっていることが確認された。高分解能表面電位測定の結果は、C_<10>ドメインのほうが約30mV電位が低くなることを示しており、CH_2ユニット1つあたりの電位変化分は約15mVとなることが示された。これは、これまでのEvansらによる結果(9.3mV)やLuらによる巨視系における測定結果(14.1±3.1mV)と整合することが分かった。
振動エネルギー散逸の計測は、有機分子薄膜を構成する分子の配向やコンフォメーションと強く関連する可能性があることから、その局所表面電位や力学応答分布と同様に、分子物性の評価あるいは分子種を識別する上で有効であると考えられる。本実験では、MoS_2へき開面上に超高真空中で蒸着堆積した銅フタロシアニン(CuPc : Cu-phthalocyanine)薄膜の分子スケールの散逸コントラストについての実験を行った。振動エネルギー散逸像においても、構造観察像と同様なサブ分子スケールのコントラストが観察された。CuPcは、分子面に対して垂直方向に大きく突出したπ電子軌道を有しているため、基板に対して平行配向した分子を分子スケールでNC-AFM観察した場合、その電子軌道と探針との相互作用が探針の運動状態やNC-AFM観察像に大きな影響を与えるものと考えられる。
