Research Abstract |
We carried out the following two tasks in 2001. (1) The study group analyzed the data of "Opinion poll about a life and welfare" conducted in 2000. We have a plan to continue data analysis next year or subsequent ones. In this sense this is an interim report. Until now we found the following points: "the three world" in Japan, in viewpoints of decentralization and social policy; "high welfare-privatization orientation" among Japanese people; gender difference of attitudes towards welfare state; people's life style and housing tenure; the relationship between support of elderly people and family responsibility; preferences for health care policy and its determinant factors; image of equality and inequality in class society; educational rights and social security; the relation between post materialism and social policy; people's attitudes towards values of welfare state (high welfare orientation, universalism, need principle and priority of public sector). In addition, a follow-up survey concerning a few variables. We reported the research result at the Japan Sociological Society in 2001, at Japanese Society for the Study of Social Welfare in 2001, and at the Society for the Study of Social Policy in 2002. (2) We carried out the opinion poll on social structure and health in 2000. We analyzed the research data in 2001. We found statistically significant relations between SRH (subjective health) and SES (social economic status) in Japan. The same is said of the number of chronic diseases (objective health).
