Research Abstract |
This research project focused on the question of the new manner of access to higher education in the mass-stage of higher education. In the days of elite-stage of higher education, admission to higher education served as an occasion of severe social selection. However, nowadays, more than a half population of the same age bracket receives higher education, and admission is not a moment for social selections any more. To meet the new end of higher education, serving for the mass, a new articulation system besides selecting students who are moving from secondary education to higher education should be prepared. Thus we have conducted our research and made some investigations into such countries as Japan, USA, U.K., Germany, Korea, Thailand and so on. We particularly esteemed investigating about U.S.A., where the popularization of higher education is in advance, and we looked into many states' conditions of USA.. Among the findings our research, we should especially mention that we observed the next four movements in many area, and we could describe those main features. The four are; 1) secondary education in many areas are coming to have curriculum that premises articu1at~ion to higher education, 2) seamless school system from K-12 to higher education(K16). 3) assessment shifting from devices for selection to devices for education, and 4) variety of articulation systems as 'dual enrollment', no-examination enrollment and transfer system from community colleges to four-year colleges
