Research Abstract |
Experimental type of CN-sonde was made to test characteristics of the system, and we performed the laboratory experiments. The experiments suggested that the experimental type sonde had mostly realized the purpose which was chosen at beginning of the project. 1.Detectable limit : There was noticeable uncertainty to detect about 1 nanometer size particles, and the number of particles observed experimental type sondes varied from first sonde to second sonde (two experimental types were compared). However, there was little difference between those two concerning detected number concentrations of several nanometer size particles. We could observed 1particles/cm3 at a few nanometer size range. 2.Kinds of observation items : Out put corresponding to CN particle concentration, number of rotation of motor/minute, power of laser out put, temperature of chamber, atmospheric temperature, and atmospheric pressure. 3.Observable range : Motor pump used here has been used as standard one of optical particle counter which was made to monitor tropospheric and stratospheric aerosol concentrations, and good results were obtained in various fields. Therefore it is possible to operate the CN-sonde in the troposphere and stratosphere (〜35km). 4.Portability : Estimated total weight of the CN-sonde is in the range of 7-8kg, and it is necessary to reduce about 1-2kg of the weight to used as the small balloon on the basis of world standard of usage of balloon. Test of the sonde under low temperature conditions will be made within this financial year, and experimental type of the sonde will be established after the low temperature test.
