Research Abstract |
An advantage of the graft material of 1 : 1 mixture of particulate cancellous bone and marrow (PCBM) and hydroxyapatite (HA) to the defect area of cleft lip and palate was examined. As a result, PCBM alone as a graft material decreased its height in a time-dependent manner, however, the extent was significantly less in PCBM-HA graft material. In other words, PCBM-HA mixture was a possible graft material for cleft lip and palate subjects. In order to further evaluate the effectiveness of PCBM-HA graft material, we examined the tissue response to the graft material using rabbit artificial bone defect model with histological and histometrical procedures and we also obtain the effect of PCBM-HA graft material. In addition, we evaluated the possibility of implant installation to the PCBM-HA graft material. Sixty days after the graft material application, implant was installed and tissue response was observed. As a result, direct contact between the implant and the bone could be observed and the possibility of the implant treatment to the PCBM-HA graft area was confirmed. We plan further research about the temporal change of the interface between the bone and the implant which is installed in the PCBM-HA graft material with the intervention of occlusal force.
