| Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to situate the Nazi era into the development of "Sozialstaat (the German version of welfare state), in examining the continuities/discontinuities of Nazi social policy with the examples of the workers policy and the welfare policy. The results are as follows :
1. It can no more be simply asserted that the Nazi era is "a reactionary or a deviated era" in the history of "Sozialstaat", as it used to be.
2. In respect of the workers policy, there are clear discontinuities, because the institutional framework of labor-capital relations was extensively changed in the Nazi era. But in the ideological trends lying under the workers policy, such as pervasion of meritocracy, de-proletarianization of the workers, etc., there are continuities.
3. In respect of the welfare policy, the institutional and personnel policy were not fundamentally changed in the Nazi era, therefore continuities can bee seen. But at that time the substance of the welfare policy was transformed into the "racism", therefore discontinuities can be seen.
4. The Nazi policy to the female labor, which was at the crossing of the workers policy and the welfare policy, was greatly influenced by the gender policy, the population policy and the foreign labor policy.
5. In respect of "the inhumane radicalization of racism", the Nazi era was surely "a reactionary or a deviated era", but in other respects, it was firmly situated in the development of the "Sozialstaat".
