| Research Abstract |
In this study, I tried to make clear the formation and the development of preaching literatures in East JAPAN by analyzing Kashimakassen and Mumyohosshokassenjyo. Kashimakassen is a story narrated about the battle between deities and devils. The motif and the plot of Kashimakassen bear a strong resemblance to those of Mumyohosshokassenjyo. Both stories have characteristics as preaching literature.
The means that I adopted to achieve the purpose and the main points of its results are as follows :
(1) By comparing various versions of Kashimakassen, it is concluded that Tomitabon copied by hand in the second half of the Edo period was the best book.
(2) By comparing Mumyohosshokassenjyo with other works similar in its conception and expression, it is confirmed that the generativebasis of Mumyohosshokassenjyo was in East JAPAN.
(3) By comparing Kashimakassen with other similar works that are composed of six chapters and handed down in East JAPAN, it became clear that they had the generative basis and the aspect of development in common.
(4) By investigating activities of preachers in the area concerned, It is concluded that the formation area and the development area were on the route from Kashima-shrine in Hitachi province to Zenkohji-temple in Shinano province via Kohzuke province,
