Research Abstract |
This research aims at the elucidation of changes that the "Vossische Zeitung", the oldest newspaper in Germany, traced for more than 200 years, and of Berlin's situations of the literary world in the fin de siecle when the newspapers functioned as central mass communication. As results the following matters were ascertained. -1. In spite of the Berlin's oldest history that the "Vossische Zeitung" traced back to the "Frischmann - Zeitung"(1617) it regarded Rudiger who took over the right of newspaper publication in 1704 as genuine founder, and denied its direct relation with the earlier publishers as well as newspapers. The "Vossische Zeitung" was namely embodied after the several internal contentions by Rudiger. 2. Owing to the strict censorship till 1748 the reports of domestic politics were regulated. Therefore the "Vossische Zeitung" had to expand the feuilletons in conpensation for it. The process of the flight of political reports to feuilletons symbolized clearly the german romanticism right after. 3. The "Vossische Zeitung" was very sensitiv to the political situations of those days and constantly modified their editing lines to the people or to the government. 4. Its early discontinuance in spite of the high level of the feuilletons resulted mainly from three factors.(1). A relief of the manager in 1911 from Lessing family to house Ullstein which made made of profit.(2). The theater review, the draw of its space, losed influence on the theater because of the change of the main medium of the literature review (from newspapers to literature journals).(3). Political reports as well as feuilletons became impossible to keep pace with the drastic change of aspects of life in the fin de siecle.
