Research Abstract |
This research project deals with the problem of efficient life-cycle support for manufacturing systems including design, implementation, planning and control, maintenance, improvement, re-construction, and disposal. The primary results of this project are summarized as follows. 1) The technique of virtual manufacturing systems is the core part of the life-cycle support and presents the field of information sharing between different activities. It can integrate three aspects of system diversity : time, space, and applications. 2) The research project shows the concept of active knowledge archive which enables to store manufacturing knowledge with rich information around knowledge. The implementation was examined by using VirtualWorks. 3) The concept of life-cycle maintenance was proposed and the concrete method of it was presented. It requires manufacturing system designers to consider maintainability, safeness and health as well as productivity. The research project also indicates some problems to be solved for new manufacturing systems. They are 1) Definition of standards for constructing virtual manufacturing system 2) Systematic collection of manufacturing knowledge with situation descriptions 3) Development of LCA methods for manufacturing systems
