Research Abstract

1) Deployment of optical head :
An optical head was built to accommodate a Dewar vessel and reflection optics. The vessel contains a lead-salt diode laser cooled by liquid nitrogen and the temperature was controlled within 2mK to stably capture an absorption line of methane. The optics are designed to control transversal mode of laser beam that carries the most of the laser power over the distance of 100 meters.
2) Measurement of atmospheric methane concentration :
Methane concentration was measured out-door, continuously over 24 hours with l0ms temporal resolution. The procedure was formulated into a measurement manual.
3) Development of fine-tuning electronics and selection of a methane absorption line.
4) Measurement of aerosol :
Atmospheric aerosol that affects global climate change was monitored with a laser radar. The campaign was achieved in cooperation with AD-net and also with ACE-Asia Project.
