Research Abstract |
The aim of this research is to make clear the hydrodynamics of the coherent structure inside the Japan-Islands-Chain, which provides a knowledge base for the assessments on the marine and coastal environments. The turbulence energy in the Kuroshio region is in the same density as in the Gulf-Stream region. As for the hydrodynamics of the energy containing mesoscal eddies, however, our knowledge is significantly poor comparing to their knowledge on the Gulf-Stream-Rings mainly because of the immaturity of the measuring technology. In this study, we cleared this technical problem by introducing the direct capturing of the high resolution NOAA/AVHRR data and constructed a knowledge base of the oceanic turbulence, which is opened on an internet www-site. In these two years of research, the NOAA/AVHRR data were directly captured to visualize the oceanic turbulence around Japan-Islands-Chain. While the clear sky succeeded, the sea surface velocity vector fields were measured by applying the SeaMark method. The sampling time of this turbulence measurements was within several hours. Integrating the data with the NOAA image or the sea level elevation data, hydrodynamical behavior of the oceanic turbulence was described. The turbulence measurements of the Gulf-Stream region was realized by downloading the NOAA/AVHRR data from the database of NOAA/Satellite-Active-Archive. The results of analyses were presented in some kinds of thematic images and published on an internet www-site. The results of this study is also electronically published as the report titled "Coherent structure inside the oceanic turbulence around Japan-Islands-Chain (3rd version)".
