Research Abstract |
A device for in-situ X-ray diffraction measurements during cathodic hydrogen charging has been developed. Diffracted X-rays are detected through 0.3 mm thick H_2SO_4 flow. The charging current is 1-100 mA/cm^2. The change of lattice parameter for Pd during hydrogen charging and after charging has been clearly demonstrated. Diffusion coefficient of hydrogen atoms in Pd was determined by the time dependence of the lattice parameter and is 3x10^<-7> cm^2s^<-1> at 295K The device is widely applicable for understanding metal-hydrogen systems under various constrained hydrogen environments
