Research Abstract |
The influence of some optical environments on the blood pressure control system was examined using the sun optical simulator. We used adult cats in which the telemetry device for measurement of arterial blood pressure had been implanted. The arterial blood pressure of the cat under free action was continuously recorded every Smsecs for 24 hours. Heat rate was measured by observing the peak interval of the arterial blood pressure wave form. The optical environment was examined using three kinds of spectrum, solar spectrum (280nm-2800nm), visible spectrum (400nm-750nm), and ultraviolet spectrum (290nm-400nm). The irradiation was conducted for three hours, between 19 :30 - 22 :30. The mean arterial blood pressures, the max dp/dt, and the heart rate increased significantly during the first 30 minutes under the irradiation, and quietened down afterwards. These changes were similarly observed in all three kinds of spectrum, solar spectrum, visible spectrum, and ultraviolet spectrum. In addition, when the wavelet transform analysis was attempted to calculate the max dp/dt change, a characteristic change of a level of about 0.016Hz was observed. These results show the existence of a regulation mechanism which is stimulated by irradiating light. This reaction is similarly obtained with ultraviolet rays.
