Research Abstract |
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to find factors related to social activities and depression. Methods : A cohort in a community in Tochigi prefecture was observed. A baseline survey was conducted through home visit interview in 1998. Endpoint survey was also conducted in 2000. In this study, depression by CES-D (the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression) questionnaire was treated as the endpoint. Results : By the CES-D questionnaire, 7.7% of residents were depression. The odds ratio of factors to depression was shown below. The odds ratio of living alone was 2.41 and high. That of easy to forget was 2.59, not eating breakfast was 4.58, having strong stress was 7.20, measuring own weight was 2.30, waking up very eary morning was 2.45, using sleeping drug or alcohol for sleeping was 2.96, and not having pleasure or worth living was 2.78. Some psychiatric health care services will be needed for residents living alone.
