Research Abstract |
Phthalate esters are one of major dndocrine disrupting chemicals, and are known to induce the male reproductive dysfunction urogenital anomalies. We previously reported that prenatally administered phthalate inhibitedtesticular and caused cryptochidism in rats. The mechanism, however, which induce undescended testis remains unknown. In present stydy, we investigate the biological effect of phthalate on testicular descent and the function of the fetal testis. In results, phthalate esters had no estrogenic effect on fetus in vivo, and undescended testis was not induced by antiandrogenic effect of phthalate. Pthalate esters had no effect on the expression of the MIS-mRNA in the testis of newborn rats which were treated with phthlate esters prenatally. Phthalate esters were involved with the inhibition of the testosterone synthesis in fetal rats and low testosterone level was responsible for the hypospadia but not responsible for the undescended testis which is possibly caused by inhibited secretion of insulin-like factor 3 from Leydig cells.
