Objectives: The study aimed to obtain concrete measures of AIDS education for the students in dental hygienist school, therefore the effectiveness of systematic and continuous AIDS education was evaluated. Methods : When the students entered the schools, examination groups (A; n=59, B; n=53) and control group (C;n=49), their knowledge and attitudes about AIDS were investigated the initial status. After the lecture of AIDS was executed, it was investigated about AIDS before clinical training and after, and the effectiveness and continuation of influence were evaluated. Moreover, the lecture (A group) and role playing (B group) was performed after clinical training, and the effects of the education methods were evaluated. Results : The investigation result at the time of entrance did not have three school difference, and a similar tendency was observed. The difference to which the situation of the AIDS education of each school was remarkable was not observed. The attitudes among three groups were not difference though the amount of knowledge in the examination groups obviously increased by the AIDS education of the lecture. And then, a similar tendency was observed the change in knowledge and attitudes since A schools were compared with B school, and it was confirmed to achieve a constant effect by them. As for the continuation of influence at the lecture, the attitudes was improved in the examination group though knowledge increased by all of the three groups. The change in attitudes has improved remarkably in B group, which did role playing, though an increase in knowledge was same level in the lecture compared with the role playing. The results of study were suggested that the AIDS education of combined lecture and role playing was more effectiveness concerning attitudes, however the knowledge was similar.
