Research Abstract |
We have so far developed several systems that support collaborative learning and evaluated them in school education. Based on the experiences, a new system is proposed in this paper. Key ideas underlying the system are learner-centered design with a game sense and the development of contents for learning by pupils in elementary schools with the help of students in an art university, computer scientists, and so on. The system integrates physical and virtual worlds and used for learning urban planning and environmental problems in school education. Several experiments with the system prove that it can support the externalization of learners' thinking and thus it promotes active participation, interactions, and discussions in a learning situation, and raises the intensity of learners' engagement.
