Research Abstract

The author focused this studies on transport medium for pasteurella pneumotropica and morphology of the bacteria. The ability of leibovitz medium no. 15 with 0.5% agar (L-15 transport medium), phosphate medium (0.3% disodium phosphate ), and Cary-Blair medium to preserve the viabilities of 3 P.pneumonia strains was studied. L-15 transport medium was found to be superior to the other media, enabling survival of organism for more 7 days at room temperature without decreasing the numbers of viable P.pneumotropica. The structures of cell surfaces with the strains of P.pneumonia from mouse and rat were studied by transmission electron microscopy with or without polycationic ferritin labeling. The 3 strains of P.pneumotropica, isolates of mouse, rat, and reference strain from mouse, ATCC 35149 , have characteristic cell surfaces of gram negative bacteria. There are differences between mouse and rat strains. Many bacteria cells of rat strain were dead, whereas those of mouse strains were good survived. Furthermore, biological and biochemical properties of the strains were investigated. All strains were identified as type Jawetz.
