Research Abstract |
In this project, the members visited the Ministry of Education and other educational institutes in India, Nepal, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines, and conducted the field survey in order to get the first hand information related the teacher training programs in each countries. The aims of the field work were to find out the following two points, namely (1) the problems and prospects of policy and practice in teacher education system and in-service training of teachers, and (2) the problems and prospects of teaching materials and curriculum in pre- and in-service teacher education. Major institutions visited by the members were the National Council for Teacher Education, Jamia Milia Islamia University, Delhi District Office of Education, Teacher Collage. Munbhai Teachers College in India, Ministry of Education, Tribubhan University, in Nepal, Chulalongkorn University, Ministry of Education, Rajaphat Institute, UNESCO- PROAP in Thailand, Laos National University, Ministry of Education in Laos, Punonphen University Takeo Teachers College in Cambodia, and University of the Philippines, ISMED, Teachers Collage in the Philippines. One of the remarkable findings is that the more efficient teacher education has become one of the major concerns in each country, particularly the introduction of teacher licensure system, and its application in order to improve the educational backwardness.
