Research Abstract |
This project was originally funded as an international collaborative research. During the period of this project, double modulation scheme in detection of lines due to weak transient species was well established. HOC^+ in the ν_2 excited vibrational state and the lowest submillimeter-wave lines of CH radical were detected with the technique. As a part of the collaboration with University of Waterloo (Peter Bernath group) submillimeter-wave transitions of TiCl were observed and with this result it was firmly established that the ground state of TiCl is indeed ^4Φ. Based on our submillimeter-wave results, we attempted observations of the lowest rotational transitions with FT Microwave spectrometer at Endo's group at University of Tokyo. We saw the resolved hyperfine structures. They would provide crucial information on the distribution of the unpaired electrons. Experimental determination of the branching ratio of the dissociative recombination of HCNH^+ has been our research project in the past several years. We discussed with Prof. Okumura a possibility of monitoring neutral product of HCN and HNC separately by using photoionization or energy controlled electron beam ionization method. We both agreed to pursue this project in the coming several years as a new project. We also plan to collaborate in CH_5^+ and D_5^+ projects.
