Research Abstract |
The present research project was started as an International Scientific Research (Interuniversity Collaboration Research) in 1999. The aim of the research is to develop an interuniversity collaboration research on "Thermo-fluid engineering for development in micro-machine engineering" between theresearchers in Kyoto University and those in Tsinghua University, China and in Seoul National University, Korea. Kyoto University has had General Memorandums for Interuniversity Academic Cooperation and Exchange with Tsinghua University and Seoul National University. In the course of the present three year project, we have held three conferences : (1) "Kyoto University- Tsinghua University Joint Conference on Energy and Environment" at Kyoto University in November, 1999, (2) "Tsinghua University- Kyoto University Second Joint Conference on Energy and Environment" at Tsinghua University in November, 2000, and (3) "Kyoto- Seoul National- Tsinghua University Thermal Engineering Conference" at Kyoto

University in September, 2001. In these threeconferences, the numbers of attendees from (Japan, Korea, China) were (1) (37, 0, 6), (2) (14, 0, 27) and (3) (32, 8, 7), respectively. In 1999, 2000 and 2001, the thermal Engineering group in Kyoto University has sent or invited 6, 7 and 7 researchers, respectively (20 researchers in total), from/to Kyoto University to/from Tsinghua University, and has sent or invited 5, 5 and 13 researchers, respectively (23 researchers in total), from/to Kyoto University to/from Seoul National University. Through the mutual visits to the laboratories of the counterpart universities, interuniversity miniseminars and the above conferences, we have discussed extensively on the subject of the present research project. Significance of thermo-fluid science in micro-machine engineering or in micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) is being recognized. Importance of systematic exchange of scientific information and effort for mutual understanding is being recognized among the three Asian universities. Basement of the international scientific exchange is being established. Less
