Research Abstract

1.高分子ゲルの状態記憶効果
4-アクリルアミドサリチル酸ゲルが外部刺激(温度・イオン濃度等)に応答して,有限個の安定な相を取り,しかもゲルがたどる熱力学的履歴により取り得る相が決まる「記憶効果」を持つことを,合成高分子で初めて示した。また,この高分子ゲルのそれぞれの「相」における構造を中性子小角散乱法による微視的構造の解析を行い,この高分子ゲルが示す,相挙動のメカニズムを明らかにした.更に,ゲルを構成する高分子間に働く相互作用に注目し,相挙動を平均場理論を用いて,解析的に説明することに成功した.これまで,高分子におけるこの様な現象は,生体高分子にのみ観測されていたものであり,生体高分子と類似機能を有する高分子設計への物理化学的基礎を与えるものである.
2.高分子の状態変化と溶媒・塩
生体高分子の構造形成および機能発現には,共存する溶媒(水),塩(Na^+,K^+,Ca^<++>等)が深く関与していると考えられている.高分子ゲルを生体高分子ゲルのモデル化合物として.ゲルの示す状態変化と「水」および「塩」の関連について検討した.その結果,高分子ゲルの状態変化(構造変化)は,高分子鎖への「水和・脱水和」により統一的に説明することが可能でありることが明らかになった.高分子水溶液中の水には,高分子近傍に存在し運動が制限された「構造化した水」と,運動が制限を受けていない「自由水」が存在し,塩の存在は「自由水」のエネルギーを低下させるために,高分子近傍の構造の変化を受けた水が,脱水和することを明らかにした.
3.天然高分子(多糖類)の高次構造形成
多糖類は生体内において分子認識をはじめとする重要な機能を担っており,その構造と機能の物理化学の確立が急がれている.多糖類ジェランガムを用いて,その高次構造(ヘリックス)形成に対する塩の影響を,主に核磁気共鳴法(NMR)を用いて検討を行った.その結果,高次構造形成には,著しい塩選択性があることが明らかになった.
