Research Abstract |
The 1st year : Basic data were collected on 1) speech information transmitted by mouth shapes, 2) relationship between distortion of pronunciation and tooth arch, and 3) ability of use of language media by the hearing-impaired. The 2nd year : Regarding to 3) ability of use of language media by the hearing-impaired among those items, chronological transition of the ability of use of hearing-aid, lip-reading, finger-spelling and signing was analyzed in detail, referring to the investigation on communication media of the hearing-impaired by the national rehabilitation center for the disabled in 1991. The results show that for the hearing-impaired benefiting from information transmission through the multi-media communication technology, such a comprehensive strategy is necessary as to utilize all of the residual hearing ability for auditory information, to improve the ability of lip-reading, finger-spelling and signing so that the picture information can be utilized visually, and to improve the language ability in general so that the letter information can be processed quickly.
