Research Abstract

AFM探針による固体表面の物理的加工についてはすでに数多くの報告があり、申請者も半導体表面のナノメートルレベルでの加工に成功している。本研究ではこの様な単純な物理的加工ではなく、自己組織化単分子層と基板原子との結合を化学的に切断することによって二次元分子配列をナノメートル〜サブミクロンスケールで制御する事を目的として行った。具体的には、アルカンチオールの自己組織化単分子層(SAM)について、電流検出型原子間力顕微鏡を利用して、低誘電率の液体中で一定の力(一定の距離)の下で、局所的に大きな電場を印加し、電気化学プロセスにより、SAMのイオウと基板の金原子の間の結合を切断し、パターン形成する事に成功した。さらに、この時液体中に炭素鎖長の異なるアルカンチオールを溶解する事によって、他の分子のSAMのパターン形成も可能である。これらのパターンを用いて新しい情報記録システムを構築した。
