Research Abstract

本研究では以下の2点を目的としている。
1. 地球下部マントルを構成する物質の熱伝導率を高圧実験によって決定し、地球コアから流入してくる熱量を見積もる。
2. 木星などの巨大ガス惑星の主成分である水素の高温高圧下での状態を実験によって明らかにすることで、ガス惑星の内部構造に制約を与える。
本研究課題の最終年度である平成25年度は上記2の課題に取り組んだ。水素は宇宙に最も豊富に存在する元素であり、ほとんどが星間ガスや銀河間ガス、恒星あるいは木星型惑星の主要構成元素として知られている。水素は最も軽い元素であるがゆえ、高温高圧発生装置内に保持することが非常に困難な物質である。そのため、ガス惑星内部に相当するような数千ケルビン、数十万~数百万気圧下での水素の状態や物性値は殆ど分かっていない。本研究ではまず、レーザー加熱式ダイヤモンドアンビルセル高圧発生装置内に水素を安定して保持するための技術開発を行った。水素のダイヤモンド等への散逸を防ぐために、チタンをコーティングする手法を取り入れ、水素を100万気圧、2500ケルビンの高温高圧状態にすることに成功した。そのような温度圧力条件において、流体状態の水素が相転移を観察することに成功し、その相転移境界を決定することに成功した。研究代表者はこの成果を2013年11月に新潟県新潟市で開催された第54回高圧討論会において発表した。また、国際科学雑誌への投稿のため論文を執筆中である。
