多極子と伝導電子の混成効果とそれに基づく新規基底状態の実験的究明

Research Abstract

PrTi_2Al_<20>は常圧T_c=0.2Kで超伝導を示し、約8GPaの圧力下でT_c=1Kの重い電子超伝導となる。PrTi_2Al_<20>の基底状態に磁気モーメントの自由度はなく、四極子の揺らぎが関係している新しい超伝導の可能性があるが、低い転移温度と臨界磁場のため常圧においても詳細な超伝導特性が調べられていなかった。そこで、希釈冷凍機を用いて常圧低磁場でのSQUID磁化測定、比熱測定、La希釈系の電気抵抗率・交流磁化率測定、を行った。特にSQUID磁化測定に関しては、助教の松本洋介氏と協力して装置の立ち上げを行い、自らアクティブシールド付きマグネットやサンプルステージを作成して測定を行った。この装置により非常に感度のよい磁化測定が20mK<T<5Kの広い温度範囲で可能になった。また、これらの実験からPrTi_2Al_<20>がマルチバンドの超伝導体であり、四極子の混成により有効質量が増大したバンドが存在していると考えられることを示した。上記のような成果に加えて後輩の指導も行ない、PrV_2Al_<20>の純良化を行なうことでT_C=0.05Kで超伝導になることを発見した(preprint)。この超伝導はPrTi_2Al_<20>よりさらに重い有効質量を持ち、混成がより強く量子臨界点に近いことを示唆している。四極子秩序相内での電気抵抗率のふるまいは冪的p~T^3であり、四極子の遮蔽により重い電子状態が形成されている可能性を示唆している。

9に示したのように目的としていたSQUID磁化測定装置の立ち上げとそれを用いたPrTi_2Al_20の磁化測定を行うことができたため。さらにはPrV_2Al_<20>の純良化と超伝導の発見という目的も達成されたため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

PrV_2Al_<20>で見つかった超伝導は重い電子超伝導の可能性が高い。そのため比熱や磁化等を測定しそれを確認することは大変重要である。また四極子秩序の量子臨界点に近いと考えられるので、磁気熱量効果を計ってそれを確かめる。
