Research Abstract

近年、スカーミオンと呼ばれる渦状の磁気構造がMnSiやFeGeといったB20型化合物において観測された。この磁気構造はトポロジカルなスピン配列をしており、他の磁気構造とは異なった電磁気応答が発現する。本研究では、スカーミオン磁気構造形成の物理とそれにおける新奇な輸送現象の観測を目的として実験を行ってきた。前年度までに分子線エピタキシー法や高圧合成法といった様々な合成方法を用いて、一連のB20型Mn_<1-x>Fe_xGeバルク試料やB20型Mn_<1-x>Fe_xSi薄膜の作製に成功した。上述の試料においてスカーミオン形成を観測し、さらにその形成に伴うトポロジカルホール効果といった巨大ゲージ場(仮想磁場)に由来する電気輸送現象を観測した。最終年度である当該年度においても、スカーミオン形成とその新奇電磁気応答の物理を精査し、新たな現象の観測と知見を得た。特に、B20型MnGeバルク試料においては3次元スカーミオン結晶形成に伴う巨大なネルンスト効果を観測した。これは、トポロジカルホール効果と同様に、40T程度の巨大な仮想磁場によって、熱流で駆動された伝導電子の運動が曲げられたために生じた新しい現象であり、トポロジカルネルンスト効果と呼んでいる。一方で、B20型薄膜サンプルにおいては成膜条件を制御することによって、スカーミオン相の安定性を支配する重要なパラメータが膜厚とらせん周期であることを明らかにした。B20型化合物において発現するスカーミオンの形成過程とそれがもたらす巨大な電磁気応答を明らかにでき、今後のスカーミオンの磁気メモリなどへの応用化の足がかりとなった。
