Research Abstract

高橋、平田、木村はマントルプルームの構成物質、温度、マグマの多様性を生ずる原因などを解明する目的でハワイホットスポット火山の研究を引き続き行い、プルーム中心からの火山距離に従ってマグマ組成が系統的に変化することを明らかにした(Ren、Takahashi,2004、2005)。さらにメルト泡有物の微量元素分析から、マグマの生成がプルーム内部に含まれるエクロジャイト成分に大きく依存し、火山の位置によるマグマ組成変化は、プルーム温度構造によるエクロジャイト成分とカンラン岩成分のマグマへの寄与の差であることを世界で始めて明らかにした(Ren, Takahashi Hirata, Natureに印刷中2005)。さらに高橋らは、エクロジャイトのマントル深部での密度を精密に決定するため、構成物質の量比の温度変化を相平衡実験で決定し(Aoki and Takahashi,2004)、エクロジャイト成分を構成する各種鉱物の弾性的性質をSPRING-8の放射光施設でX線その場観察により決定した(Nishihara, Takahashi.,2004a, b, c、2005a, b)。一方、広瀬は、マントルプルーム発生場である、下部マントル最下部および地球中心核の化学組成を解明するために単結晶ダイヤモンドアンビル装置を用いて200万気圧に達する高圧実験を成功させ、外核に数%の酸素が溶け込んでいることの初めての実験的証拠を見出し(Takafuji & Hirose,2004)また核に接するマントル最下部はMgSiO3ペロフスカイトがさらに相転移した高圧相でできていることを世界で始めて明らかにした(Murakami Hirose 2004 Science)。さらに金嶋と趙は地震学によりマントルプルームの深部構造および核の内部構造の研究に世界で始めて成功させた(Helffrich and Kaneshima,2004 Science)。
