Research Abstract |
This study utilizes a nano-indentation tester (AKASHI CO. LTD) in order to measure mechanical properties of minerals. Our results follows. (1)We first checked the elastic deformation of the testing apparatus by using a test piece of WC which is regarded as a rigid material. The displacement during loading is regarded as the elastic deformation of the apparatus. (2)We also checked the elastic rebound of the testing apparatus by using a test piece of Pb which is regarded as a completely plastic material. (3)A rheological parameter can be deduced by the displacement at a constant load. (4)Young's moduli of piemontite and quartz are revealed to be increased with increasing pressure. The obtained values are not consistent to the previously obtained values. We have still problems on the accuracy of elastic constants. (5)Chips of two Bygdin conglomerate samples, one from the high strain zone and the other from the low strain zone, were indented, and provides a series of data suggesting that quartz grains in the high strain zone samples are stronger than those in the low strain zone.
