Research Abstract |
This year was the final, third year of our project, "The general study on the history and the present situation by Buddhist social welfare groups after WW II", on which theme we had a joint meeting, in July 2002 in Tokyo. At that meeting, in making a final report, each of us made interim reports a couple of times during this session to confirm basic matters and common items. Specifically, we made reports and discussed the followings : (1)the post-war direction of various Buddhist schools and spheres of social welfare, (2)the formation of contents and the naming of each item in whole reports. The body of the reports is as follows. The report is divided into 2 parts. In part I, "the post-war and issues of religious social welfare groups," and in part II, "post-war history and issues for each sphere of social welfare." We use the same period of time in both I and II. We divided the whole period into 4 groups (between right after WW II and the present), I, from the immediate post-WW II to reconstruction. II, the term of high economic growth, III, from the term of low economic growth to the bubble economy, IV, the post-bubble era to the present. In this frame of reference each of us wrote on each topics in both part I and II, to which we are assigned. We tried to make it clear what kind of social welfare and activities Japanese buddhism developed, and the welfare activities that temples did and buddhists achievements. (The report is A4, pp256). At the same time, beside these works, we added and replaced other basic data to the statistics contended in "Post-war Buddhist Social Welfare Chronology", (The report is A4, pp494) and "Buddhist Social Welfare Establishments and Activities Data At A Glance." (The report is A4, pp184).
